Zero Label: the cost of relabeling

Every relabeled pallet consumes time, introduces errors and holds goods in receiving. Zero Label reconciles the supplier format with yours without touching the labels.

Overhead still life: the corner of a carton with its original supplier label, a handheld scanner and a clipboard with a blank sheet.

Relabeling rarely shows up as a cost in warehouse reports. A pallet arrives with the supplier's code, and before it can be put away in the system someone peels off, prints and sticks a label in your own nomenclature. Multiplied by thousands of units a month, the result is person-hours, data-entry errors and goods held in receiving.

Relabeling does not change the product or speed up delivery. It translates one code into another. Every manual translation is a chance for an error that later shows up as phantom inventory or mispicks.

Two nomenclatures with no bridge

The supplier uses its nomenclature and your iWMS uses yours. Without a bridge between the two, the only way for the system to understand the goods is to reprint a label it can read.

Zero Label makes the system read the goods as they arrive:

  • Single code link. The supplier's code is mapped once to your internal SKU. From then on, every unit from that supplier is recognized without reprinting.
  • Receiving with no relabeling station. Goods come in, get scanned with their original label and are put away.
  • Fewer discrepancies at receiving. Removing manual reprinting removes their main source.

Effect on the next processes

When goods come in fast and correctly identified, what follows improves.

Picking. If the code is right from the start, the picker assembling an order does not run into labels that do not match.

Palletizing. The Smart Palletizing module works on reliable data, not on translations that may be wrong.

Reconciliation. Physical inventory matches the system because no manual step could desynchronize them.

Where it applies

Zero Label is useful in operations receiving heterogeneous goods from many suppliers: distributors, grocery wholesalers and 3PLs consolidating loads from different clients. In bonded warehouses, where a customs status must also be maintained, eliminating relabeling reduces operating cost and the risk of discrepancies before the authority.

The right calculation includes the full relabeling process and the errors it generates. With your monthly pallet volume, we calculate that cost in the first meeting. Talk to a specialist.
