Cold chain: traceability as evidence

A product that leaves at 4 °C and arrives at 12 °C with no record in between cannot be defended to the customer or the regulator. Continuous traceability turns the cold chain into evidence.

Overhead still life: a temperature logger with a strap, a paper strip with a temperature curve, a navy clipboard and a white carton with condensation on a light desk.

A product leaves the warehouse at 4 °C and reaches the customer at 12 °C. There is no record of what happened in between. That window without data is where pharmaceutical and perishable batches are lost.

The direct loss is one part of the cost. The other is that, without evidence, you cannot prove the temperature held for the entire trip. When a customer rejects a batch, there is no way to verify transport conditions. When a COFEPRIS or SENASICA auditor asks for documentation, what exists is manual logs signed after the fact.

From monitoring to evidence

Monitoring is seeing the temperature now. Traceability is being able to reconstruct what temperature each pallet experienced from the moment it entered the warehouse until the delivery was signed, and exporting it as a report for the customer or the regulator.

The Cold Chain module integrates temperature sensors with the iWMS, the iTMS and the Control Tower:

  • Sensors from any vendor. Dedicated devices, OBD readings or any API connect without depending on one manufacturer.
  • Continuous logging. Temperature is captured during storage and transport, also between checkpoints.
  • Range alerts. If the temperature leaves the defined range, the Control Tower is notified at that moment.
  • Report per delivery. Every delivery generates an exportable temperature report.

What changes in the operation

When logging is continuous, it stops being administrative overhead and becomes operating data. Three concrete effects.

Claims answered with data. If a customer states the product arrived out of range, the complete history of the trip is available.

Regulatory documentation up to date. The file is no longer assembled before the audit. It is generated with each movement, dated and tied to each batch.

Action before the loss. An early alert about a refrigeration unit starting to fail allows intervention before the load is lost.

Where it applies

The cold chain cuts across several industries. In food and beverage, traceability protects thin margins and reduces rejections. In 3PL operations, it lets you offer each customer temperature evidence as part of the service.

The starting point is the sensors you already have, connected to a platform that logs, alerts and issues the report for every delivery.
